Chaneque
The Chaneque are fascinating and bizarre creatures from Mexican folklore. Their name loosely translates to " those who inhabit dangerous places" and other translations meaning "someone who acts as a guide".
In lore the Chaneque are believed to capture the souls of those who wander in the forest and are often blamed for disappearances. In stories these beings appear as small old woman and men or even young boys and girls and live deep in the forest.
These beings may have been made up purely be to used for warding children off from wandering out in the forest, however the lore surrounding them is still very intriguing. What do you think are these mythical creatures that guard nature or just a hoax used to keep people safe?
