The Grootslang
The Grootslang is a legendary creature from originating from South African folklore. This beast is rumored to be a some type of hybrid between an Elephant and Snake.
The lore involves a creation story about this beast that immediately resulted in "the gods" realizing their mistake considering the Grootslang was allegedly way too strong which lead to the creature being separated into the first elephant and snake. There was supposedly more then one Grootslang in the origin story and one was rumored to have escaped, retreating into a cave known as "The Wonderhole".
This cave is rumored to contain countless diamonds as the Grootslang is known for coveting them. These stories about this creature are interesting but however the truth of this being seems to be more based in mythology rather than in scientific truth.
