The Kongamoto
Central Africa has a cryptid that's possibly a remnant of the past. This is the Kongamoto and winged beast accused by locals of swooping down to steal fisherman's bounty and possibly even leaving them stranded in the water as this creatures name loosely translates to "breaker of boats".
The belief of this cryptic spread more rapidly in the 1930's stemming from a book called "Witchbound Africa". Lore suggests that along with attacking the canoes of nearby native tribes its believed to dig up corpses from graves and take them away for food.
This cryptid seems to be a relative of winged dinosaurs like the Pteranodon, making many cryptozoologists believe its a relic of the past if it actually exists.
