The Mapinguari
The Mapinguari, is a legendary cryptid from Brazilian folklore, said to dwell in the dense jungles of the Amazon. Witnesses described it as a massive, sloth-like being standing over eight feet tall and is often depicted with thick matted fur and a single eye in the center of its forehead.
Locals claim the Mapinguari emits a foul odor to ward off humans and is a danger to those who enter the jungle. Indigenous tribes believe it to be a guardian of the forest and encounters with the Mapinguari often claim it has a thunderous roar and quickly and is very elusive. Could this be a remnant of the past or just a myth of the jungle?
